MARS—Columns Layout

The latest Style Hatch theme, MARS includes three layout modes—default, wide and columns. To highlight the columns layout, check out the MARS columns layout demo site. The demo site also shows the flexibility of the theme with different post-type colors, background, and Typekit fonts.

Multiple Layout Modes

With MARS you have the choice of three unique layout modes. Use the default layout with 500 pixel wide posts or the wide layout with 720 pixel wide posts and both feature the floating dates and tags to the right. If you would rather a grid of posts you can enable the columns layout mode to fill your entire browser window with posts.

Typekit Ready

Add your Typekit kit ID to the appearance options to fully control and customize the typography in the MARS theme. Use some of the best fonts from foundries like FontFont, Adobe, P22, T-26 and Veer. To access all of the Typekit fonts you will need a paid Typekit account, but they also offer a free account with a limited selection.

Social Features

MARS has built in support for group blogs, sharing on Facebook and Twitter, Disqus, Flickr, and sites you follow. In the Appearances options you’ll also find 29 social profile icon links.

Customization Options

Default Layout
Enables the default MARS layout with 500 pixel wide posts and floating dates and tags to the right. Make sure you only have one layout mode checked at a time.

Wide Layout
Enables the wide MARS layout with 720 pixel wide posts and floating dates and tags to the right. The theme will use the high resolution versions of your post images to fill the 720 pixel wide post and all video posts should scale up to the larger width. Make sure you only have one layout mode checked at a time.

Show Portrait in Description
Displays a small portrait icon inside your description.

Show Group Blog Details
If your site is setup as a group blog this option will list the site authors in the sidebar as well as display the author below each post.

Show Sites I Follow
Displays a box on the left column showing all the sites you follow revealing 24 at a time.

Use Smart Bold Titles
When creating post titles it is ideal to add <h2> tags around the title, but the smart bold titles option will make it a bit easier to define a title for each post. After the option is enabled just bold the first line (paragraph) of any post to turn it into a stylized title. This option can be problematic in situations where you only bold one or two words in the first paragraph.

Images

Background Image
Use this option to upload a background image for the site. This can be used for a repeating site background or creatively behind the site title for a unique header.

Logo Image
Upload a logo for to display in the sidebar above your site’s title. Try experimenting with transparent PNGs to allow the background to show through the logo. The logo image should be less than 270 pixels wide.

Colors

Background
Sets the overall site background. This is useful if you do not have a background image selected or if you want to fade your background image to a solid color.

Sidebar Links
Set the color of the link that are displayed in the sidebar. This also effects the hover state of the pages buttons, various elements in the sidebar and link colors in the site footer.

Text, Photo, Quote, Link, Chat, Audio and Video
Set the accent colors for the various post types. This color controls the permalink triangle in the top left corner of the post, the floating date and tags, and various UI elements. This gives you the ability to set colors for each post type, groups of post types or all post types.

Custom Text

Site Secondary Title
Sets an optional secondary title below your site title.

Description Title
The title above your site description.

Social Links Title
Displayed above the social link icons. If you do not want to display any icons simply remove the title.

Authors Title
If you have a group blog this will set the title above the list of site authors.

Following Title
Displayed above the icons showing the sites that you follow.

Twitter Title
Appears above the Twitter feed as long as you have Twitter integrated with your Tumblr account.

Likes Title
Displayed above the Tumblr posts that you like.

Flickr Title
Appears above the four Flickr thumbnails when you have your Flickr ID set.

Footer Copyright
Changes the copyright information displayed at the footer of the site.

Extensions and 3rd Party Addons

Disqus ID
Add your Disqus Site Shortname to enable comments for your site. Click here to register for a Disqus site account.

Google Analytics ID
Traction has asynchronous Google Analytics tracking built into the theme, all you need to do is add your site ID to this option.

Clicky ID
For realtime tracking of who is on your site right now, goals, campaigns and Twitter monitoring add your Click ID. Clicky does charge for their analytics and tracking, but I highly recommend it for people who are stats junkies. Sign up for an account with Clicky.

Flickr ID
Add your Flickr ID to display four thumbnails of your most recently uploaded images. Use http://idgettr.com to find your Flickr ID which is different than your Flickr username.

Typekit ID
Add your Typekit kit ID to the appearance options to fully control and customize the typography in the MARS theme. Use some of the best fonts from foundries likeFontFont, Adobe, P22, T-26 and Veer. To access all of the Typekit fonts you will need a paid Typekit account, but they also offer a free account with a limited selection. Directions on how to assign fonts are coming soon.

Tweet Count
Sets the number of recent tweets to show in the right column.

Likes Count
Sets the number of Tumblr liked posts to display in the right column. The maximum like count is 10.

Add URLs to display the following social site icons below your site description. Note: Make sure you add the full URL, including “http://”.

Behance, Cargo Collective, Delicious, Deviant Art, Digg, Dribbble, Ember, Etsy, Facebook, FFFFound, Flickr, Formspring, Forrst, Foursquare, Gowalla, Last.fm, Linked In, Rdio, Skype, Slideshare, Soundcloud, Stumbled Upon, Twitter, Vimeo, generic website link, Youtube, and your email address.
